Hello 105 Families,
It's hard to believe that we're half way through the month of October!
We have been busy learning and having fun in Room 105! We dove into our curriculum in math, reading and writing this month. Here are a few things we've been working on:
In reading we're both reading "just right books" during reader's workshop, and listening to read alouds.
-I can choose a book that's just right for me.
We're working on counting by 2's and 10's. We're also looking at the plus sign, subtraction sign and the equal sign as we're solving addition and subtraction math problems. Make sure your student is reading their math sentences, just like they would a normal sentence, and asking, hmm does this make sense?
-I can add numbers to ten using different strategies.
We're working on writing 3+ page stories with a beginning, middle, and end. We're really trying to make sure we're choosing ONE event to focus on. Rather than writing about our WHOLE vacation, or the WHOLE school day we're choosing one event that happened-- going out to dinner, a funny game we played sometimes even something silly that happened in the classroom!
- I can tell when to use a capital letter and when to use a lowercase letter.
-I can stretch a word out to hear all the sounds then spell it.
-I can touch the pages of my book, tell a story, draw a quick sketch, then write my story.
We've learned how to give compliments and are continuing to practice Habit 1: Be proactive. This week we talked about how being proactive means taking initiative-- doing things without being asked because you know it's the right thing to do. Ask your student how they're proactive at home and in the classroom.
Keep up the great work Room 105!
